Design Challenge
The OZCHI 2015 student design challenge invites participation from student teams from around the world. Participants will have 24 hours to develop a solution for a given HCI research problem. The top four entries will be invited to present their work at the conference and the first two winners will receive prizes.
July 15, 2015: Registration is now open. Please register your team here. You can change your team details until August 2, 2015.
How It Works
- Registration opens on July 15, 2015 and closes on August 2, 2015. Teams must comprise at least three and no more than five students. There is no limit to the number of teams that may compete from any given university or organisation. A student may not be a member of more than one team.
- Students may be at any stage of their university career, from undergraduate to postgraduate. We encourage teams from multiple disciplines or institutions or even multiple countries or continents.
- On August 8, 2015 at 10AM (AEST), we will publish the design brief online for this year's challenge on the OzCHI Student Design Challenge blog. Your team will have 24 hours to design a solution. Please note that you do not need to be in Melbourne to participate: the SDC is an online event, and we encourage teams from all over the world to participate. During the design challenge, we will have a couple of mini-challenges, the winners of which will be awarded with the exciting prizes. Countdown to the design challenge
- You will have to demonstrate your solution in the form of a short, 3 minute video prototype or concept video, as well as a design document in the Extended Abstract format (no more than 6 pages). You are expected to keep a blog to document the process for your team and to keep us updated on your participation.
- A jury of international experts will select the top four entries, which will be invited to present their entries at OzCHI 2015. These submissions will be included in the conference proceedings.
- At OzCHI, the finalists will present their entries in a dedicated student design challenge session. Presentations via Skype may be possible, if your team can't attend OzCHI.
- The two finalists will receive certificates of recognition and prizes during the OzCHI closing ceremony.
