Enter Sydney Central Building from Hay Street. Walk through arcade until the escalator. Go up escalator to the first floor.

Food

ChinatownChinatown (Haymarket)

- Sydney's Chinatown is located between Central Station and Darling Harbour. Offering a variety of Asian cuisines, Chinatown is sure to have something delicious to offer you.

 

Market City

- Also located in Haymarket, this is a bustling shopping centre with swathes of Asian food to choose from, as well as other chain names like Gloria Jean's Coffee. It's also a great place to go shopping for clothes and gifts.

Darling HarbourDarling Harbour

- Darling Harbour is a waterfront playground, with shopping and food galore. It offers all sorts of cuisines to suit any budget, and has a few seafood restaurants to choose from.

Broadway Shopping Centre

- Just a few minutes south of UTS is 'Broadway', situated in the grand old Grace Bros building from 1923. It's filled with shopping opportunities of all sorts, but offers lots of food outlets as well--from sushi to burgers, salads and soups.


Sydney Fish MarketSydney Fish Market

- A busy but idyliic spot with lots of fresh seafood that can be cooked while you watch! In addition to every type of seafood you can imagine, it offers lots of outdoor seating located right on the waterfront. Getting there is about a 25-minute walk from UTS, so you might prefer to catch a taxi or lightrail (tram) service.

Sydney-siders take their coffee very seriously! Here's a short list of some noteworthy cafés to choose from.

Mecca Espresso

646 Harris Street, Ultimo

- Mecca delivers its coffee fresh and strong. There's a café located minutes away from UTS, on Harris Street. By the way, there are also many other cafés to choose from on Harris Street.

 

Knight's Coffee and Tea Co

Shop 5, 827–839 George Street, Haymarket

- This is a hidden gem, tucked behind the ABC Ultimo Centre / under the NSW TAFE building. It's worth discovering!

 

Penny Lane

UTS, Level 1, Building 11, Jones Street

- Located in UTS's new Engineering and IT Faculty Building, this café offers coffee, meals and a well stocked bar in a modern environment.

 

Café 10

UTS, Bulding 10, 235 Jones Street

- Located in UTS's old Engineering and IT Faculty Building, Café 10 is a friendly place to grab coffee or a bite to eat.

 


Transport - getting around Sydney

The easiest way to get around the city, from UTS, is by bus. Central Station is also very close, so trains are also a handy option.

Opal cards are needed to travel on most services and can be purchased from any convenience store (eg. 7-11) or newsagency. The card is free but you'll need to add money to it to cover your fare, $10 is the minimum top-up amount.
